Description Provenance Exhibitions Bibliography

In 1891 William Frederick Cody (Le Claire 1846 – 1917), best known as Buffalo Bill, founded Buffalo Bill’s Wild West, a circus-like attraction which toured across America and Europe. Bill sojourned in 1887 in Italy, France and England. Troubetzkoy, influenced the Egyptian circus in Milan, portrayed exotic characters and animals, which appeared in the shows. According to Rebora (2017), The Native American on Horseback plaster was exhibited at the Permanente Exhibition in 1893, and as a bronze at the Exhibition for the Belle Arti in Rome, together with other small bronzes of similar subject. On that occasion, the small bronze was acquired by the Galleria Nazionale d’Arte Moderna of Rome. In the same year, other casts were shown at the International Exhibition of Chicago and at the Belle Arti e Fiori of Intra.
