Description Provenance Exhibitions Bibliography

The present artwork shows the nude bust of a girl. According to Donatella Gavrilovich (2017) “the simplicity of its shape almost recalls Medardo Rosso’s figures”. The present plaster, an allegorical figure of the city of Pallanza, was executed by Troubetzkoy on occasion of the contest for Carlo Cadorna’s public monument in 1892. Troubtezkoy participated to the contest with three sketches (n.51,52,53). Troubetzkoy won the contest and n.52 was chosen as the final version. Gavrilovich states that this is known to us through a photograph published by Giolli (1913, p.18). Of the scale model, only the present bust remains, which is currently located at the Museo del Paesaggio in Verbania. The public monument was done between 1894 and 1895, and unveiled 6th October 1895 in Piazza Garibaldi.
